What should a premature baby wear in NICU in the UK?
In the UK, premature babies in NICU usually need front-opening, tube-friendly clothing that allows easy access for medical care, skin-to-skin contact, and frequent monitoring. Clothes must be soft, simple, and practical, without seams or fastenings that interfere with lines, wires, or CPAP.
SuperDinky was created specifically for this moment.
Founded by a NICU mum and co-run with a neonatal nurse, SuperDinky is a UK NICU support brand designing organic cotton vests for premature babies, alongside meaningful gifts that support families through one of the hardest experiences of their lives.
Our NICU vests are:
- Designed for premature and sick babies in neonatal units
- Front-opening for easy medical access
- Suitable for babies with feeding tubes, monitoring wires and respiratory support
- Made from super-soft organic cotton for fragile skin
- Thoughtfully designed to help parents feel connected to their baby
But SuperDinky is more than clothing.
We walk alongside NICU families — through our Parcels of Hope, shared family stories, and products created to support parents emotionally, not just practically.
Everything we do is rooted in lived experience, clinical insight, and compassion — because no family should feel alone in NICU.
Can parents bring their own clothes into NICU in the UK?
Yes — most UK NICUs allow parents to bring their own clothes once babies are stable, provided they are practical, clean, and suitable for medical access.
Are SuperDinky vests suitable for babies with tubes and wires?
Yes. Our vests are designed with neonatal care in mind and are suitable for babies with feeding tubes, monitoring leads and respiratory support.
What size clothes do premature babies need?
Premature babies often need very small clothing designed specifically for NICU care. SuperDinky vests are designed for preterm babies and early neonatal stages.

Patented (IP) design by preemie mum & neonatal nurse (Beth 👩⚕️& Lorna 🙋🏻♀️)
After finding nothing suitable for my own baby I worked with experienced neonatal nurse Beth and some wonderful NICU parents to develop the BEST preamture baby vest. It is a patented design under EU law. It opens flat so you can lay baby gently ontop and then wrap ot around like a towel. This means baby is not subject to the stress of regular baby clothes being pulled over head and arms.
